We Love Treating Children

Finding a dentist you trust to treat your entire family is an important part of taking care of everyone’s overall health. If you have small children, in particular, you want to know that your dentist enjoys treating kids.

Both Dr. Mary Huffman and Dr. Robbie Sheffield love treating children, and we are pleased to offer pediatric dentistry at both of our locations.

We treat both children and adults, so you do not need to bring your children to a separate dental office. With today’s hectic schedules, it’s simply more convenient to be able to take care of your entire family’s dental needs in one place.

Give us a call today to make an appointment for an examination and cleaning at either our Morganton or Lenoir location—for your entire family.

When Should I Start Bringing My Child to the Dentist?

We recommend bringing your children to their first appointment as soon as their first teeth erupt. This not only gets them accustomed to sitting in the dental chair, but it sets them up for a lifetime of regular dental visits.

Another benefit of bringing your children to the dentist sooner rather than later: Kids who start going to the dentist early are less likely to have anxiety over visiting the dentist when they are adults.

Good Oral Health Habits Start Early

One of the healthiest ideals we can instill in our children is the importance of keeping teeth clean. Let your children watch as you brush and floss your own teeth. Discuss the role of regular visits to the dentist in taking good care of your teeth.

To minimize your child's anxiety, take him or her along when you visit the dentist. It's crucial that children not feel frightened of the dentist when it is their turn for an appointment.

What You Can Expect with Pediatric Dental Care

From the very first time your child comes into either of our offices, he or she will be given an experience that is as pleasant as possible. Our office is set up to make kids comfortable!

If your child is apprehensive about the visit, let us know ahead of time. We know techniques that can help calm our young patients. If you are apprehensive as well, you can rest assured we are also quite skilled at calming nervous parents!

Dr. Huffman and Dr. Sheffield will give you tips for practicing good home care on your little ones. For older children, we will show them how to brush properly to encourage good oral hygiene habits between visits to the dentist.

We offer dental sealants at both of our offices, which help protect your child’s primary molars and premolars.  We also offer fluoride treatments to help stave off cavities.
