Professional Teeth Whitening Will Make Your Teeth Whiter and Brighter
There can be many reasons why our smiles aren’t as white as we would like them to be, from genetics to aging to lifestyle. But the good news is that professional teeth whitening is available and you can do it in just about an hour at your dentist’s office.
Don’t be the person who hides their smile behind their hand or who avoids smiling altogether. You no longer have to feel self-conscious about the color of your teeth.
Call Dr. Mary Huffman or Dr. Robbie Sheffield and find out more about professional teeth whitening. In just one appointment, your teeth can be brighter and whiter than you’d ever imagined.
How Does Professional Teeth Whitening Work?
The whitening gel used for professional teeth whitening contains high levels of peroxide, and it is more powerful than anything you can buy at your local pharmacy or department store.
It works like this: Hydrogen peroxide breaks down, allowing oxygen to permeate the enamel and dentin. Colored substances on the teeth are bleached, although the structure of the teeth remains unchanged. A special light helps activate the hydrogen peroxide, enabling it to penetrate the surface of the tooth. This eliminates years of staining and discoloration.
Professional teeth whitening noticeably brightens the enamel and dentin of your teeth, making your teeth look up to 10 shades whiter.
We use the KöR teeth whitening system because we know it yields excellent, consistent, long-lasting results.
How Long Is the Professional Teeth Whitening Procedure?
For most of our patients, professional teeth whitening will take about an hour. Your dentist will need about 15 minutes to prepare your mouth to receive the whitening gel, and the bleaching process itself will take about 45 minutes. We recommend that patients have a full cleaning before participating in the whitening session.
During the procedure, patients are encouraged to relax and watch television or listen to music. It should also be noted that those with anxiety or a strong gag reflex will want to speak with the dentist beforehand to create a plan to manage any worries.
If you prefer, you can whiten your teeth in the comfort of your own home by using our take-home custom whitening trays. Your teeth will still be as white as they would if you had the procedure done in the office, but it will mean using the whitening trays and gels over a period of days rather than just a matter of minutes.
How Can I Make the Results Last Longer?
By following easy post-whitening care instructions, you will help your smile stay bright for a longer period of time. As always, keep your teeth looking their best with good home care, including flossing, twice daily brushing, and occasional KöR touchups.
If lifestyle choices such as drinking tea and coffee or smoking cigarettes were part of the reason your teeth were discolored, avoiding those habits in the future will also help your teeth stay whiter for longer.
